Our curriculum is based on the experiences and outcomes of Curriculum for Excellence which can be found on the Education Scotland website:
We plan carefully to cater for all types of learner and all abilities, making sure children have depth and breadth to their learning and are being challenged to make the best progress they can given their own individual abilities. We give children choice where possible and plan learning activities around interesting contexts that they will enjoy. We keep their learning relevant to today's world but without losing touch with the basic core skills that they need to build on for future learning and their working lives.
We provide opportunities for every child to participate in a wide range of learning experiences not just in their classwork with its outdoor and active learning but also in a variety of trips and events out of school and in after-school clubs. In a small school like ours every member of staff knows every child and every child gets a good chance to show and develop any talents they have, for example, every child who wants to will be in the school football team and every child will get a part in every school show or presentation.
Our small muli-composite classes allow for younger children and older ones within the same class to build good learning relationships and share their skills to help each other. It works well.
We are keen to support charities and to help others. As part of their enterprise activities children have regular opportunities to contribute to events raising money for those less fortunate in the world.
